The Modern Farmhouse Kitchen

With each new client and each new project, we learn something new, and this experience was no different. This gorgeous project is an awesome example of a new trend of modern farmhouse kitchens that we cannot wait to see more of!
We’ve discussed how to handle the lower corner cabinet in a kitchen, but what about the upper corners of your kitchen?
There are a few different options out there, the most common being the upper corner cabinet. But, that option crowds the kitchen and makes the corner counter-space much less usable.
Marci wanted something different, and that’s just what she got.
I got to sit down with her and learn about her entire renovation process.
Walking into her kitchen, I was immediately obsessed with her custom design. We had the best time chatting about the project and meeting her precious pups.
After Marci’s youngest child left for college, she and her husband discussed downsizing and moving to a different area of town. After living on their quiet street for over 20 years, it felt like the perfect opportunity to change things up a bit. But, the more they considered the possibilities, the more they realized how much they loved their current location and how unattractive the idea of uprooting really was. But, the home needed some serious updating. Instead of moving and starting over, they decided to refresh the home they loved.
Taking on a project and remodel is never easy, and it’s especially difficult to while working full time and living in the home, but Marci made it work. She explained the importance of working with people who you can trust, it’s not always realized, but a company’s character can be just as important as their craftsmanship.
While she looked forward to modernizing and simplifying her kitchen space, she wanted to avoid making it too trendy or cold. White and grey were the colors she had in mind, but was worried that it wouldn’t deliver the warmth to the space that she was craving. She wanted something with a bit of a rustic or updated farmhouse look, and it came together beautifully.
While opting for grey cabinets, stainless appliances and bright white countertops, she added a few key features that not only set apart and beautified the home, but delivered the rustic, warm touches for which she was searching.
She and Bobby collaborated and designed a beautiful range hood and corner open shelving that helped to add the final touch to her design. The rich tone of the wood also picks up the interiors of the cabinets. Marci finally has the kitchen she has always wanted and has enjoyed organizing it, down to the spice drawer.
Now, when you ask about her favorite part of the kitchen, instead of being met with an eye roll, she smiles and says “The entire thing, the wood elements on the vent hood and corner shelving warms up the space but still have the updated grey and white.
I asked how she chose Madera, and she said a friend she works with has a dad who flips houses who also uses Madera for his projects and also used Madera for his personal home, and she loved the finished product. But, what really made her excited to work with Madera was when she actually contacted the company.
“I loved the way Bobby handled everything, he never made her feel like I was a bother and always answered my questions”, Marci said. He told her “We’ll keep going back and forth until you are completely happy”, “and a lot of companies aren’t like that at all”, Marci said. Her other favorite thing about working with Bobby was his willingness to make any changes she requested, even last minute.
The Madera team and installers came so many times to do final walk throughs, and made changes, even down to the wire. Choosing to work with Bobby’s installer, lovingly referred to as “the best installer in Arizona”, was “the best move we ever made”. The entire install took 2 or 3 days and “they were very collaborative with my vision”, Marci noted.
I mentioned earlier, working full time made it difficult for her to always be present, which is why it’s so important to work with people who not only have a good reputation when it comes to their work, but also as people. Taking on a project and remodel is never easy, and it’s especially difficult to while working full time and living in the home, but Marci made it work. She explained the importance of working with people who you can trust, it’s not always realized, but a company’s character can be just as important as their craftsmanship.
Throughout the process, Marci became so comfortable around both Bobby, the owner, and Shane, the installer, that she had no issues leaving a key and giving them permission to work on the project when she wasn’t at home, which is something she doesn’t typically do.
Another bonus was the fact that her puppies really enjoyed the extra guests and attention they received throughout the process, but not as much as they’re enjoying their new kitchen.

Now I asked her what she’d change about the experience, and happily, she said “not a thing. I’m very, very happy; I really couldn’t be happier.”
Thanks so much, Marci, for allowing us to serve you and share your story!
